We have provided some detailed commentary in this blog recently concerning the introduction of a bill in the British Columbia Legislature to modernize and replace the existing non-profit governance legislation. According to the Legislature’s website, Bill 24, the Societies Act proceeded to third reading on April 22, 2015, without any substantive amendment. It would appear that the form of the new law is now fixed, although we await enabling regulations and a timetable for implementation of the new governance regime. Based on previous announcements, it would be expected that the new law would come into effect sometime late in 2016 or early in 2017.
