We are pleased to announce that Mary B. Hamilton, Partner at Alexander Holburn, is a 2018 recipient of the honorary title of Queen’s Counsel (QC). Mary has over 30 years of legal experience in wills, trusts and estate administration. She has served as chair of the Vancouver wills & trusts section of CBABC. Mary co-wrote the CLEBC wills precedent book used by lawyers throughout BC. She has also contributed to numerous law reform initiatives, including the law governing succession and estate administration that resulted in the Wills, Estates and Succession Act. Mary has given pro bono workshops on estate planning through the Planned Lifetime Advocacy Network (PLAN) to families of people with disabilities, and generously donates her time educating the charitable sector and the public on topics pertaining to wills, estates, incapacity and charitable giving. In 2011 and 2017, Mary was named Vancouver Trusts and Estates “Lawyer of the Year” by Best Lawyers® in Canada.
The announcement of the 2018 appointees was made on December 10 by Attorney General, David Eby. The honorary title of Queen’s Counsel is granted annually on lawyers ‘to recognize exceptional merit and contributions’. The advisory committee for Queen’s Counsel appointments includes several senior members of the BC judiciary and legal community.
