In recognition of International Women’s Day, our Women’s Forum held exciting initiatives throughout the week, celebrating the women in our lives. This year’s theme is “For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.” This theme encourages action that can promote equal rights, power, and opportunities for all, promoting a feminist future where no one is left behind. Central to this vision is empowering the next generation—the youth, particularly young women and adolescent girls—as catalysts for lasting change.
See below for a summary of activities we held this week:
INTERNAL EVENTS
We hosted our annual brunch to recognize the achievements and contributions of all the women and female-identifying members of Alexander Holburn.
The morning started with a breakfast buffet and champagne toast served by some of our partners, followed by a speech from our current Women’s Forum Chair, Menka Sull. Members of our Kelowna and Toronto offices joined us online for this event, and our colleagues out east also hosted their own in-person brunch the day before in our Toronto office.
Throughout the week, we spotlighted some of the incredible women at the firm. By sharing their inspiring stories and achievements, we highlighted their impact on our daily lives. Each of these women brings unique strengths, resilience, and leadership that inspire those around them. We hope their journeys empower you to break barriers, embrace opportunities, and champion inclusion in the workplace.
SUPPORTING WOMEN IN LAW
The Women’s Forum is proud to sponsor two upcoming events for women in law school:
- The Allard Law Women’s Caucus is hosting its annual Women in Law Dinner. This year’s theme is “Fostering Community Building and Connection,” where students can engage with leaders in Vancouver’s legal community, hear from distinguished speakers like the Right Honourable Beverly McLachlin, and support the West Coast LEAF through raffle proceeds.
- The TRU Women in Law Society will hold a panel titled “The Practical Aspect of Law: What They Don’t Teach You in Law School.” This event offers students the opportunity to learn about overcoming barriers, developing leadership skills, and gaining tips for success within the legal industry.
International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day serves as a reminder of the importance of creating a world where women have equal opportunities, access to education, healthcare, and resources. It encourages individuals, organizations, and governments to take action toward building a more equitable society free from discrimination and bias. This year’s theme aims to elevate the rights and empowerment of all women and girls, ensuring no one is left behind in the fight for equality.
