PRACTICE PROFILE

Susan is a member of the firm’s Insurance and Labour & Employment Practices. Her practice is litigation based with an emphasis on insurance, employment and human rights defence matters. She has a particular interest and expertise in handling occupiers’ liability, products’ liability, professional negligence and wrongful dismissal related claims.

REPRESENTATIVE EXPERIENCE

  • Defends several major retailers, hotels and commercial property owners in personal injury and property damage claims.
  • Defends manufacturers, distributors and major retailers involved in products’ liability actions.
  • Defends and advises professionals inovlved in negligence claims.
  • Involved as counsel in complex subrogation recovery matters.
  • Defends and advises employers, businesses and societies involved in wrongful dismissal actions and human rights complaints both directly and under their liability insurance policies.
  • Has defended sexual harassment claims against corporations and individuals.
  • Extensive experience in the resolution of litigation through direct negotiation and mediation.
  • Appearances in the Provincial and Supreme Courts of British Columbia, and before various tribunals.

PRACTICE RELATED CONTRIBUTIONS

  • Regularly authors and presents seminars to clients on a variety of topics. Recent examples include resolving multi-party disputes, bad faith claims, limitation periods under the Insurance Act, court procedures and various legislative updates.
  • Taught a business law course at a local private college.
