PRACTICE PROFILE

David Gooderham is a member of the firm’s Defamation, and Insurance Practices.  He is also a member of the firm’s Appeals Advisory Team.  David’s practice is primarily litigation-based with broad experience in handling libel and slander disputes involving business and public sector organizations.

He has represented universities, hospitals, municipal governments, and publishers.  In another aspect of his practice, Mr. Gooderham has handled land use conflicts involving Aboriginal rights claims and private land development.  He has represented business in tri-partite negotiations with Government and First Nations.  Mr. Gooderham has successfully resolved business disputes involving long term leases of reserve land and advises in the resource sector on issues of Aboriginal Title and consultation.

REPRESENTATIVE EXPERIENCE

  • Has handled numerous defamation cases, including print media, television, publishing, Internet, and claims arising out of professional communications in accounting and other professions. 
  • Has represented the private land developer in the case of Skeetchestn Indian Band v. Registrar of Land Titles, Kamloops (2000), one of the first cases in British Columbia to address issues of aboriginal title and fee simple title.
